I was looking to interview a blind individual who would be willing to be recorded and answer questions regarding what it is like for them to get through the metro to their destination-- any difficulties they encounter, what it is like, any suggestions/recommendations they may have to improve the system. Teaching English and promoting hygiene practices in Pandan Elementary School

February 6 - February 20, 2010

The Pandan village is located in Rembang regency. The word ‘Pandan’ itself means such kind of leaf which smells good and it can also be used to make a plaited mat.The village provides natural scenery and is far away from polution. This is a pilot project in an elementary school in Rembang regency intended to give some contributions to the educational program in the school and influence positively the develpment of the village, while promoting international solidarity and intercultural encounters. In this context, a team of international volunteers is invited to take part both in renovating the area and in educational activities.
The project will be in Pandan Elementary School with around 100 students and 10 local teachers. The volunteers will help in the renovation and painting of the local school. The educational activities with the children will involve mainly teaching English and basic hygiene practices like cleaning hands, cutting nails, etc.
Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the Javanese particularities.
Leisure time: During the free time, the volunteers may visit Goa Akbar (Big Cave) and Goa Maharani (Maharani Cave). Near these caves, there is a tourist site called Wisata Bahari Lamongan (the site lies along the beach and is completed with some interesting games, performances and a swimming pool).

It is the most important traditional celebration each year in Vietnam. Vietnamese usually spend one or two weeks to visit their families, friends, and relatives, and beautiful places. They also go to pagodas and temples to pray for happiness, luck, success, good health, etc. with holy meanings for the New Year. They also make and enjoy very delicious food and cakes, especially “Chung” cake which is square sticky rice cake that all Vietnamese make only for Tet. However, there are still poor people and street children who do not have money for buying or making “Chung” cake.
The international volunteers will join a group of local people and volunteers to make "Chung" cake for the poor people and then give them out as happy gifts for the Lunar New Year. "Chung" cakes need to be cooked for 12 hours. The volunteers are expected to help about 300 people on this special occasion. They will also take part in preparing and decorating houses of the poor people. The volunteers will organize special parties and give gifts to street children and children with HIV/AIDS to wish them a Happy New Year.

CAEO’s Recruiting!

Interested in volunteering? We’re looking for passionate and committed individuals who are a part of or allied with the English-speaking LGBTQ community to join our diverse team who volunteer for the following programs:

* Gay Line is a free listening service that has been serving the queer community since 1976. We actively listen to our callers' questions or problems (mainly regarding sexuality, health, orientation and diversity) without any prejudice or judgment, and help them figure out their own answers or solutions. Lines are open every night from 7pm-11pm.
* Gay ONLine is the web extension of Gay Line that will be launching in 2010. The program will offer the same listening service and resources as Gay Line but via online chat.
* SILK stands for, "Sexual Information Leads to Knowledge." This program's goal is to raise awareness about sexual health, orientation and diversity as well as to combat homophobia to make schools a safer space for students. Free workshops are offered to Montreal English speaking high schools (in partnership with Allies Montreal).

All volunteers are required to fulfill 2 shifts/workshops a month from a program of choice and must attend monthly socials with fellow CAEO volunteers.

Why volunteer?
This is a volunteer position, for women that have a bad streak of luck in these hard times.
If you are over weight, depressed and feeling worthless,
You know deep inside you, this is not the way your life will continue.

My son and I, are writing a book about health and well being in these uncertain times.
Myself, a victim of downsizing, and no jobs available in my field, decided to take the bull by the horn, and live my life as its suited for me.

I challenged the government, that told me that my compensation for paying taxes for 35 years of my life, is the benefit of welfare.
I challenged the bank that took away all my credit cards and privileges, because they dabbed me a bad investment.

I will also volunteer my time, to help you get your life and self esteem back on track.
I'll help you loose weight, help you find your way back to the working force, and show you how to re-invent yourself.

Ladies!!! I want you to know, that there are ways of earning money, and becoming worthy of yourselves-!!

If you are a woman over the age of 45, and are seriously willing to leave all the negative forces behind you,
I will be there to motivate, and help you change the corse of your unhappy life.

Your progress will be recorded, and will be part of the book we are writing.

Don't hesitate, take this opportunity and help yourself to a better you.
Its not a gimmick-!! there are guardian angels on this earth, and I would like to consider myself yours.
The Convent is situated in the region of Abruzzo, centre of Italy, about 150 km away from Rome. It has been fully restored by the local institution Mountain Community and furnished following as much as possible the "static free" standards.
The project aims to bring new economic, tourist and especially cultural and spiritual movements in a quite isolated area. It deals with sustainable living, no waste, recycling and clever use of energies.
As every year international volunteer groups will spend some days at the ex Convento San Giorgio: a good chance to meet people from all over the world, to know a bit of Italian culture, getting in touch with permaculture and sustainable living; all this while staying in a Convent of the XVII century and discovering the beautiful Park of Sirente–Velino.
This is a special project in which international volunteers will help to collect olives in the field. The field is about 45 minutes away from the Convent (by car). During this period volunteers will be spending the day in the field. Work can be hard for some who are not used to it.

It is a mixed school for boys and girls, with boarding facilities for boys only. There are 4 classes from grade 1 to 4. The school has 140 students in total. The number of staff is 8 teachers and 5 non-teaching staff. The school offers 11 subjects: Math, English, Kiswahili, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, History, Geography, Business Studies and Computer (IT).

Volunteer to help children in Thailand

The International Humanity Foundation is looking for volunteers to serve at our orphanage in Chiang Rai, Thailand, and be friends and teachers to our children. By bringing together disadvantaged children of Thailand and volunteers from across the world, there is a learning opportunity for both. As both sides discover more about each other, their lives and their cultures and go on to teach their own friends what they learned in this exchange, we hope to create a world of greater understanding and compassion.

Our Thailand centre works especially with the hill tribes, the indigenous people who live in the tumultuous borderlands between Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos and as far as China and Vietnam. The hill tribes in northern Thailand face many challenges, and it is part of our mission to arm our children with the skills, attitudes and knowledge that they will need to have equal opportunities in their future like other Thai citizens. The children at our centre are from the Lahu and Akha tribes.

Help Children in Kenya with the International Humanity Foundation

The International Humanity Foundation is looking for volunteers to serve at our orphanage and education centre in Nakuru, Kenya, and be friends and teachers to our children. By bringing together disadvantaged children of Kenya and volunteers from across the world, there is a learning opportunity for both. As both sides discover more about each other, their lives and their cultures and teach their others what they learned in this exchange, we hope to create a world of greater understanding and compassion. Our centre in Kenya also has a close relationship with the Pokot tribe in the eastern-central part of the nation and goes on regular famine feeds to support it.

Work

IHF needs people with all skills. No matter your experience, whether a student or retired professional, IHF needs you. At the centre, volunteers divide their time between playing with and teaching the children and working on international projects . The centre host English, computer and math classes, and the children often seek tutoring for their homework, all tasks which volunteers take part in.

All volunteers participate on one or more of our international task teams such as university relations, photography and child watch. To qualify to serve at a centre, volunteers must complete eight hours of work on one of the teams, and they continue to participate on the team once at the centre. In the rare case where you lack the ability to complete these hours but possess certain trade skills in agriculture, construction or others needed at one of our centres, you may be exempt from these pre-trip hours. If this is the case, be sure to immediately get in contact with the centre director to discuss your situation and possible alternative tasks.

It is important to note that these are intensive experiences. Even before your arrival at the center, you must work eight hours on international tasks to demonstrate your work ethic. Once at the center, IHF requires its volunteers to work eight hours a day (four hours on at center tasks and four hours on international work), six day a week. There is time to sightsee and tour the nation, but work is always the first priority. IHF depends on its volunteers to function and to love the children. If you are not prepared to devote this time to work, you should look elsewhere for your service experience.

Cost: IHF is committed to offering a flexible, affordable service experience. There is no application fee, and volunteers pay only USD $50 a week to cover the costs for their room and board, both very simple, at the center. If you commit to serve for six months or longer, you must only pay USD $600.

IHF focuses on educating and feeding children who come from the most marginalized and disadvantaged backgrounds. IHF has set up orphanages in Kenya, Indonesia and Thailand. We seek to provide a way for children to get an education that they desperately desire and are not able to receive. By educating and teaching these children that they are significant and competent, we also teach them that everyone has a voice that matters. IHF promotes self-sufficiency in the communities we work in, primarily focusing on the education, nutrition, and care of children. IHF encourages understanding and caring between people of all nations and religions in order to better prepare the leaders of future generations. We believe that by promoting communication and understanding between students from the poorest of the poor and students in America, we will all be better educated by this exchange. We desire for every student in the United States to have communication with students abroad who are different both culturally and socioeconomically, in order for all students to be educated about the world they live in.

Volunteer to help children in Indonesia

The International Humanity Foundation is looking for volunteers to serve at our centres in Jakarta, Bali, Aceh and Medan, Indonesia, and be friends and teachers to our children. By bringing together disadvantaged children of Indonesia and volunteers from across the world, there is a learning opportunity for both. As both sides discover more about each other, their lives and their cultures and teach their own friends about this, we hope to create a world of greater understanding and compassion. Unlike our other centers, the one is Bali is not an orphanage but only an education center. No children stay there, but many come for the classes held there.

I am a secondary 5 student making a documentary on domestic abuse, to teach girls my age and make them understand the importance of it. This would consist of a 15 to 20 minute filmed interview, answering several questions and getting a chance to share your experience. Whether it you have experienced it first hand, or had a family member experience it, my goal is to let girls know what their options if they are dealing with this directly, as well as showing to boys my age what the aftermath is and tragic events that follow. If you are interested, please contact me, Jenna, through my email.
Hope to hear from you!

This year the hurricane Jimena has lashed the city of Guaymas leaving an important level of rain. 2009 is the year when it rained the most (in the last 50 years) and this caused an important damage to the population of Guaymas and to the city. The hurricane affected people of all backgrounds, leaving a lot of people in the middle of nowhere since they lost everything they had. Everything was affected, public buildings, leisure areas, houses, schools, there was no place that was not affected.
This international volunteer project is organized in order to help in the reconstruction of the city of Guaymas with the support of motivated volunteers. There are many things to be done since there were several areas seriously affected. We need help to clean beaches, to rebuild sportive spaces, to clean up parks and community spaces, to fix roads, to help in rural communities by giving health workshops.
After the hurricane, the children affected don’t have a place to continue their studies, they lost everything they had for their education: material, furniture, the roof collapsed and the walls were damaged because of the water and humidity. For that reason, at this first stage, the goal of the project is renovating and reconstructing two schools damaged by the Jimena Hurricane, so the children affected can return to their educative activities as soon as possible and in a clean and healthy environment, appropriate for their development and with the support of the international volunteers. This project will benefit 25 families for the first school and 180 families for the second school.
Volunteers will help with the reconstruction of the two schools affected. They will help with reconstruction activities such as painting walls, reforestation, and cleaning the schools. They will contribute to renovate these structures through scratching and painting walls, and will also do some artistic work such as painting murals on the walls of the schools with the help of local volunteers with landscapes and thematic appropriate for the children. The volunteers will also help planting trees and reforesting the affected area, making and putting signals and signs.
Age range: 18 and over
Location: Morelia is a beautiful historic city, and capital of the state of Michoacán. Founded almost 500 years ago, the city has a wonderful central zone with buildings dating back to the time of the Spanish conquest as well as all the more modern attributes (shops, bars, cafés, etc). The city's population is over 1 million and the climate is moderately warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-35º C. Morelia is well connected to a variety of great places to visit, such as Pátzcuaro, and the ancient Purépecha capital Tzintzunzan.

For more details visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-mexico.htm or give us a call: 604-628-7400

For volunteer opportunities in other countries click here: www.cadip.org

Hey everyone,

My name is Nadine. I am a professional speaker and an international motorcycle racer. I am currently touring schools talking about suicide and my own experience with it.
I love helping people, and I am starting a facebook page and a blog. I need someone to help me supervise the page and the blog every now and them from home.
Nothing too complicated, just a helping hand from people that would like to give back. Answer emails from the kids, and try to help a little.

I am not savy in the social media area, but I need someone to partner up with that can take care of that side of things. It's still fairly new, but growing very quickly.

Please contact Manny if you have an understanding of the twitter/facebook/etc world, and would like to give back to people who need it ;-)

From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Hi!

I am running a perceptual experiment for my Ph.D. dissertation and I need your help!

It’s a study about people perception of colors, shapes etc. It’s computer-based and fun. It takes 45 minutes and it’s very visual. It’s not a basic and boring survey! You will be using the mouse almost all the time during the experiment.

I am looking for participants 18 years or older, who have no problem seeing colors (i.e., NOT color blind) and no known neurological problem. You don't have to be a student to participate.

My study takes about 45 minutes. Participants will be paid $5 for their time.

The study takes place in my office in the GM building at the John Molson School of Business at Sir George Williams Campus (downtown), Concordia University.

If you are interested, please email me your time availabilities asap to schedule the date and time and I will send you specific directions.

My email is s_cheikh@jmsb.concordia.ca.

Please spread the word about my study by emailing this post to your friends:)

Thank you in advance for your help!

A rapidly expanding classical performing arts series seeks capable, enthusiastic, and dependable volunteers to help run concert events. Our shows are predominantly musical recitals by both established and emerging professional performing artists. A love of live classical music and the fine arts in general is recommended, but not required.

Our series is run out of a small church in downtown Montreal, and is run exclusively on volunteer efforts. The project was launched in January of this year, but it is rapidly becoming better known around Montreal. In addition to the classical music concerts, we put on an excellent mini Jazz series in August, and there are plans to expand into other areas including musical theatre, dance, and multimedia presentations.

Volunteers are needed for an array of tasks ranging from greeting and acting as ushers at events, to web design and promotional activities, to supervising entire concert events. Volunteers will work with the artistic director and will be given tasks suitable to their skills and experience. Bilingualism is an asset, but not essential.

For more information about how you help keep the arts alive in Montreal, please contact:

EDUCATIONAL AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES FOR DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN IN A POOR FISHING VILLAGE

The Youth House School is a small education center for disadvantaged street children and children coming from a poor fishing village, located in the outskirts of Hanoi. The international volunteers will help run the school and will be responsible for keeping the school clean, cooking free lunch for the children, and teaching them basic things about their countries, health, etc. The volunteers will also organize some leisure activities for youth after school. This is a time for cultural exchange and embracing new relationships. The international volunteers will work together with a team of local volunteers, led by a group leader.
The volunteers will teach around 15 children every day. Remember, the children are not used to rules and structure in their households, so volunteers must try to implement this by setting an example. The Youth House is also a place where young local people and international volunteers come to explore the cultural diversity, by teaching the children together or organizing leisure activities, such as taking the children to the swimming pool.
These activities are combined with projects to help disadvantaged people at the Fisher Village, who are very poor and live in slum-boats on the Red river. This is done by giving them food, medicines, water filters (for clean drinking water), toothpaste, second-hand warm clothes and free showers in winter, etc.
The Red River is the biggest river in Vietnam. The delta is located in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The city continues to expand with many people coming from the countryside into the urban area. This however, is an expensive endeavor with the government imposing a tax on people coming from the rural area to prevent a massive influx of people. Some people decide however to come despite this financial situation and thus must live in house boats at the river to escape from having to pay. Since they do not technically live in Hanoi they must pay for school which is usually free until the age of 12. The entire family must work hours that most people would consider inhumane. The children wander the streets begging and collecting rubbish. An entire family barely makes $2 a day.

For more info and enrollment, please go to: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-vietnam.htm

To learn more about the international volunteer workcamps go to: www.cadip.org/workcamp.htm or give us a call: 604-628-7400

Volunteer opportunities in other countries: www.cadip.org

Hello
THis is a very unusual request and I know only someone listening to Our fathers still small voice may hear and want to answer. I am a single mom (33 years old) with three children who works full time as an educator for autistic children. I have recently applied for a beautifull daybed for my daughter- ( her bed is broken) at Dormez vous on Sources, the bed itself is only $450 but I do not have the cash for it...I applied for their credit that will cost me about $20 a month- well, they refused me without giving me an answer as to why,,,.. I find this strange since I have a stable employement and have recently been accepted for a car...Anyways I have no family that can help (father divorced when I was young and I dont know him) and am asking if anyone might have it in their heart to co sign for me...I would be willing to sign a contract with that person stating that if I ever stop paying my $20 a month then I can give you something that I own that is worth the same amount or you can hold something sentimental to me (coin collection) during the period that I make my payments...

May God Bless you...
Below are images of my latest art object. It is a hand made chess board made from recycled cardboard, newspaper and bottle caps. The bottle caps serve as the base of each chess piece and provides the perfect amount of stability and weight needed for a pleasant playing experience. I have sold several of these sets and would like to take this product to the next level. But in order to do that I need a good source or supply of bottle caps. If you are interested in helping me out please contact me. I greatly appreciate it!

Seeking a volunteer to translate from English to Tagalog language.

Must be open minded, free from prejudice, non judgemental and family oriented.

Rewards will be received in return from what you translate... guaranteed.

If you love the Philippines.... love family as family is respected in the Philippines and do not believe in those who take advantage of relocating from the Philippines to further sexual perversion and twisting of the Catholic religion in a foreign country (which truly only gives others a bad opinion of the philippine people...) .... then this is for you.

I am offering you an opportunity to stand up for what the Philippines stands for (good hard working people, morally correct and unwilling to sell their souls...) and write a article which reflects largely to defend those good Philippinos who come to canada with good will and good intention.

You only need to be open minded, free from prejudice and willing to translate word to word.

The truth has tremendous healing power

Hope to hear from you....
