EDUCATION COORDINATOR: Children, Youth and Families Program
Purpose of the Position:
To plan, lead and evaluate the educational activities of the Childrens Youth and Families Department, particularly within the After School Program which is offered to Elementary School-Aged Children. The person chosen for this key position will build the Centres efforts to inspire and support our young students to realise their full potential to succeed in the school system. That success will depend on appropriate intervention through coordinated efforts at school, home and in the community to nurture academic, emotional and social growth. This ambitious, challenging undertaking will require that careful attention be given to an ongoing practical evaluation process of students as a base for strategic planning.
Key areas of Responsibility
Programming Responsibilities
Assess needs of children through consultation with parents, teachers and educators
Develop individual educational plans and curriculum that encourages cooperative and active learning
Develop innovative methods and tools that will motivate children to read, write and problem solve
Develop and coordinate tasks for educators, specialized tutors and volunteers
Implement and coordinate daily education program operations
Formally evaluate program on an on-going basis
Develop and ensure the implementation of training workshops, training sessions for program staff
Work collaboratively with Coordinators to achieve goals and maximize resources
Networking and outreach responsibilities
Develop and maintain contacts with schools, parents and other community resources
Attend relevant meetings and events and actively participate on selected parent committees
Administrative and supervisory responsibilities:
Ensure the completion of all administrative tools, develop program schedules, prepare session reports.
Oversee the management of children during programs
Supervise, support and evaluate educators
Positively participate in team meetings and training, demonstrating good team-building skills
Additional skills and qualifications
Ability to deal effectively with disciplinary issues
Ability to form positive interpersonal relationships with people in various roles
Good communication, problem solving and confliction resolution techniques
A solid understanding of cultural communities
Strong organization and written skills. Facility with the computer
Ability to communicate in French and English.
Degree in a related field of study or equivalent experience
Job Conditions:
$16.50 per hour (approximate)
Full-time Monday through Friday (35 hours). Some flexibility required
Annual vacation equivalent to 6%
