Fall.
I was always a big fan of the fall. I like the way the cold air mutes your sense of smell and lends everything a subtle freshness and the dry leaves gives the air a hint of spice. The moisture level in the air drops dramatically so you can see farther; the mountains in the distance seem closer, the moon larger, and colours sharper. You can see the paths of the wind in the stirrings of the leaves and some part of me always feels like I can follow them out into the world, or maybe into new worlds.
Soon we’ll get that those first snow flurries that barely settle on the ground. Big, broad flakes that float down out of the sky and seem to drag down with them the rate of the relentless passage of time. The city will slow and quiet, like it’s holding its breath, waiting for something to happen.
I love that sense of immanence. I’d like not to lose it, and that means, practically, that I’d like for something to come of it.
I’d been a while since I met anyone who I’ve found really captivating and longer still since anything came of such a meeting. I’d like that to change in a big way.
I could describe a hypothetical “you” that I’d like to me, but who we are on paper has a very little to do with whether or not we’ll be able to enjoy and conversation with each other, let alone become friends or lovers…
Don’t get me wrong. I know what I want:
Conversations that get in the way of normal sleeping patterns.
A smug smile that can’t be punched off my face.
Fingers on my back and whatnot
And, you know, World enough, and time. (wow. Never thought I’d quote Andrew Marvel)
I’ve got now I idea with whom I can find all that jazz though. Surprise me.
So let’s save that, maybe, for later. Be someone who would like to share some minor adventures, is up for anything and, maybe, has a few ideas about how can enjoy this city in the fall together. Maybe we can drink too much beer and decide, a 4AM, that we really need a pineapple or something. From there all good things, hopefully, will follow.
