I have given at the time money to someone who appeared before me as a lawyer in order to fix my immigration status. Unfortunately he was a dishonest guy – he took all my money and disappeared. I was all-alone in Montreal – no friends no family. I could not go back in my country of origin for political reasons. At the time I bought in the black market a card with a SIN for $200. It was the card of someone who had a temporary status here and left for the USA. The card was starting with 9 – temporary. In this card and in this name I based my entire life. I worked and I accumulated credit and a good name in my environment. The year 2004 I paid a lawyer a big amount of money to get me out of the mess. And I finally got accepted from Canada for humanitarian reasons. I am Canadian citizen now. But: Canadians have given me papers with my real name while everybody around knew me with my non-true name – I went with that name for more than 15 years. No one knows my true name here. It would be very hard for me to go around and explain to everybody what really happened. Therefore I asked for a name change as soon as I became Canadian permanent resident. The federals they approve my reasons but the country of Quebec blocked it. They said to me that I had to wait first to become Canadian citizen. As soon as I became I have send an application. But Quebec blocked it again. Meanwhile I continued live and working with my non-true name – what else to do? The end of 2008 the restaurant in which I was manager closed down – partners disagreement. I have lost all my unemployment money and they treated me in a terrible manner in the unemployment. Now I am one year without a job. I cannot go to the people I know to ask for work – I have to admit that I was an illegal emigrant. And it is hard even to give references. I am under a terrible depression. I went down on my Visas because I have just the welfare income all this year. I have a very good credit with my un-true name. And I am in a very bad position. I cannot find work. Some friends’ advice me take the money from the Visas and go bankrupt. The above-mentioned friends they do not know my situation. They do not know that I have 2 names practically. They advised me that, because that is the way that all the new emigrants do. It is true that all the families that I know here from my country with houses and assets they all did that: The husband did accumulate credit, bought a house, business and many other things with this credit and in a certain moment passed all his belongings to the wife or kids and after he committed bankruptcy. In my desperation I thought to buy with the money of the Visas stocks and leave for my country of origin – I can pay $ 2.000 (from the Visas again) and “reconnect” because the political situation is a bit better now. To give you a passport again they usually ask for $ 2.000. But I honestly do not want to do that. I lived so long time here – going back in a third world country would be like traveling back in time. Plus it is not a very big amount of money: $30.000, minus the cost of taking again the papers of my country and tickets will leave me with an amount of $ 22.000 - $ 24.000 more or less. Not much to buy a house or a business and start anew. But I will not have to pay the monthly and will be the first time in my lifetime to have $ 22.000 like that. How is the low in Canada? If I take the money of the Visas and leave for another province the police will be after me? Will be difficult to find me because in the other province I will have to start from 0 using my real name. They can investigate and find out that is I – but will take some time. But if I have to start from 0 using my real name I can as well remain in Quebec. Can they find me? How long will take them to find me? How many years in jail for something like that? In fact for the Visas to find out what happened they have to go through immigration and I do not think that immigration gives out info that easily. In all my Visas I do pay insurance. So I think if I will just disappear the insurances will pay the amount. Is that correct or not? I do not know what to do. I have to find a solution for myself. I mean a real solution.
