The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted viral infection in the world today. Most people will get HPV at some point in their lives but this viral infection usually clears up by itself and causes no signs or symptoms at all.
CONDOMS DONT PROTECT YOU AGAINST HPV!!! It is spread through skin to skin contact.
There is No cure for HPV. It can cause penile and anal cancer in men and cervical cancer in women. It is a virus that can stay dormant in your body even though you don't have symptoms. There is no test for men to know if they have HPV (they only do a visual examination)
Symptoms can look like ingrown hairs or pimples but they are actually warts or lesions that can be too tiny to be seen my the naked eye. Women that are affected by HPV go for a colposcopy, which means that their skin is looked at under a microscope to make sure they have no symptoms.
HPV is something you should be concerned about, even if your a man.

75% of sexually active people will get HPV at some point in their lives. A great majority of those people wont even know they have it and they will pass it on unknowingly.

The way I see it, there are 4 types of people you could meet online:
1) the person who has never come into contact with HPV.
2) the person who has HPV and doesn't know it yet. (therefore unable to tell their sexual partner about it)
3) the person who knows they have HPV and is not telling their sexual partner out of embarrassment, fear or rejection, denial...
4) the person who has come into contact with HPV and is not afraid to be honest and talk about it.

I would bet that there are many many more "person #2" out there than you think... I was that person for years before I found out about my HPV. I just thought I had a bump, like a pimple or an ingrown hair, but when it wasn't going away, I got it tested. I felt very shitty when I found out I had HPV and had probably transmitted it to some of my sexual partners. I do not wish that feeling on anyone...
